Who Am I?

Ten years ago, I was a 22-year old college student with a dream. Others called me crazy, but I knew that with enough knowledge, effort, and guts, I could pull it off. When I have a goal in mind, I don’t stop pushing forward until I get there. So at age 24, after two years of diligent research, study, recipe-writing, and brewing beer in the basement, I opened a brewery with a buddy from school on Bardstown Road in Louisville, Kentucky.

So why am I applying for jobs in tech? Well, a major life event happened in my family in 2021, and I realized that I wanted to take the skills that I solidified as a brewer and business owner and apply them to something new. I’ve always loved computers, and I am incredibly passionate about dissecting problems to grow understanding and discover innovative solutions.

I was the kid that would take apart household appliances just to see how they worked, and put them back together. Sometimes they even worked aftwards! It felt like second-nature to me when I joined and completed the Tech Academy’s Python Developers Bootcamp.

The past several years of my life as a brewery owner and operator have been filled with ups, downs, laughter, joy, community, friendship, and (literally) blood, sweat, and tears. I’ve pushed boundaries and grown in ways I didn’t think was possible, and these are the qualities make me successful.

On a more personal note, I'm a proud native of Louisville, Kentucky where I reside with my wife and four dogs and love to read, hike, watch UofL sports, and tend to my many pepper and tomato plants.

Education and skills

As a recent graduate of the Tech Academy’s Python Bootcamp, I have completed extensive work in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, SQL, Python, and Django. I contributed to a “Live Project” where I designed and built a cocktail recipe web app. During that project, I was able to gain hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps, Git, agile principles, and the development lifecycle. I collaborated with a team of my peers and instructors and participated in a sprint kick-off meeting, daily stand-ups, weekly code reviews, and other sprint ceremonies.

As part of the team working on this project, I pulled user stories from the backlog, designed and developed solutions, tested and handled merge issues, and submitted pull requests for integration. Using great attention to detail and problem-solving skills, I became a “go-to” amongst my peers for code review and troubleshooting to ensure a quality product. I managed the time investment and schedule of these sessions in a way that allowed me to continue meeting or exceeding timelines.
